Coconut Oil has to be one of my favourite beauty products of all time. It’s so versatile, you can use it for everything and it’s super affordable – mega BONUS!

I’ve experimented with Coconut Oil in my beauty regime for centuries now and have narrowed down to just 10 of my favourite uses for it. I usually keep one jar of coconut oil in my bathroom and another for the kitchen to avoid any contamination from using your hands.

Storing Coconut Oil

Because Coconut Oil is natural and an oil, it’s important to keep it away from sun, light, heat and air. The best place to store it, is in a cool, dark bathroom cupboard with the lid done up tight. If you leave the lid off or don’t do it up properly, the oil will begin to oxidise. Then it will smell funny and TRUST me when I say, you won’t want to put it on your skin!

Here are my top ten uses for Coconut Oil:

1. Face Moisturiser

Apply 2-3 drops of coconut oil to clean, damp skin morning and night for best results. You should wait 5 or so minutes before applying your foundation or base so it doesn’t mix with the oil before it’s had a chance to absorb properly.

2. Eye Makeup Remover

You cannot go past coconut oil as an eye makeup or any type of makeup remover! It works wonders around the sensitive eye area and is so gentle on that delicate area of skin. I usually dip a cotton tip into the coconut oil then gently swipe underneath my eye area until makeup has been removed.

3. Nail and Cuticle Cream

I’m pedantic about my nails and have always suffered from weak, splitting nails – even as a kid. Coconut oil has worked wonders in reviving my nails and making them stronger and healthier! You can use this throughout the day as an ointment for your nails OR you can soak your nails in coconut oil with a squeeze of lemon for 20 minutes each day. This will make them stronger and healthier, plus stop any splitting!

4. Split Ends Serum

If you have split ends, unruly or frizzy hair – coconut oil will be your new best friend! Simply take a small amount between your fingers, melt it down and then apply to your split ends or unruly hair. Be careful not to apply too much as it can make your hair too heavy. Less is best.

5. Hair Treatment

This has to be a hairdressers best kept secret – no need to spend hundreds on deep conditioning hair treatments. Coconut oil works wonders on your hair. Simply heat up some oil and massage into your roots, all the way down to the ends. Leave it on overnight for best results and then shampoo and condition in the morning. I always do this on the last night before washing my hair to keep it super healthy and shiny!

6. Lip Balm

Another budget beauty idea that has amazing benefits for your lips. I usually spoon a small amount into an empty lip balm container and carry with me in my handbag. You can apply it as often as you like and it’s 100% natural! No need to worry about this drying out your lips as it works to nourish from the inside out for gorgeous, glossy lips.

7. Oil Pulling

Oil pulling helps to keep your teeth white and your gums healthy. Simply take 1 tbsp coconut oil into your mouth and gently swish around your mouth with your tongue for 10-20 minutes. Start at 5 minutes and work your way up to 20. Seems strange I know but I ALWAYS notice whiter teeth within a few days of doing this. Plus – it draws toxins out of your body at the same time. Just remember to spit the oil down the drain and brush your teeth after. DO NOT swallow.

8. Bath Oil

Add some coconut oil to your bath for extra nourishing and moisturising benefits. It helps to soothe dry or sensitive skin, leaving you feeling silky smooth. If before bedtime, add 1-2 drops of lavender essential oil to your bath to help you relax for a better nights sleep.

9. Body Oil

Forget body moisturiser, use coconut oil instead for the best skin of your life. Coconut oil is rich in vitamins and minerals which work to heal your skin from the inside out. If you’re suffering from any dryness, uneven skin tone or rashes – you can expect to see an improvement after using coconut oil. It’s best to apply it after getting out of the shower while your skin is still damp. This helps the oil to absorb faster, so you don’t have any oily residue.

10. Cracked Heels Balm

Massage 1tbsp of coconut oil onto cracked heels at night before you go to sleep and cover with a pair of cotton socks. Sleep in this overnight and watch your cracked heels fade away.
