We all love drinking green tea for health benefits but did you know you can use green tea for beauty benefits too? Read on for my favourite green tea beauty tips.

Green tea is growing in popularity all around the world for its amazing health benefits. But there is so much more you can do with green tea to benefit your body and your skin. From DIY facial masks to toners, there are so many amazing ways to get glowing hair, skin and nails every day with green tea.

Green Tea Facial Toner

My belief has always been that if you cleanse your skin properly, you won’t need a toner. In saying that though, I really like the idea of using green tea on my skin after cleansing and exfoliating as a way of preserving my skin that little bit more and fighting premature ageing.

I love the benefits of green tea on my body so it was only natural that I fall in love with this facial toner recipe as well. You can try the below recipe after cleansing or exfoliating your skin and I find it is the PERFECT base for applying your rose hip oil on top. Note: Never apply rose hip oil to dry skin or you will just look oily!

Ingredients:

2 cups brewed green tea (cooled)
1 clean spray bottle

Method:

1. Simply brew 2 cups of green tea and allow to cool.

2. Once cooled, pour into your empty spray bottle and use in replacement of a store bought toner.

It works great to tighten and refresh dull skin to make you look fresh and glowing. You can also keep your toner in the fridge during the warmer months to give your skin a real wake up call!

Green Tea Body Scrub

Green tea has potent antioxidants and free-radical fighting benefits that help keep your skin looking refreshed and younger. One of the best things you can do for your skin is exfoliate regularly so it makes sense to include green tea in your beauty kit for DIY beauty products.

When you exfoliate the skin, you help to remove any dead skin cells and debris that is trapped under the surface and clogging your pores. It also helps to improve circulation in the skin, making you look refreshed and younger.

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 tbsp green tea (loose leaf or from tea bags)
1 tsp matcha green tea powder (available at most health food stores)

Directions:

1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix until well combined. Feel free to add more coconut oil if you would like however 1/2 cup is quite moisturising.

2. Store in a glass jar or air-tight container and apply during bath or shower time in a circular massage motion.

Green Tea Hair Mask

While it’s important to look after and care for your skin, it’s also important to nourish and protect your hair too. We often forget to take good care of our hair and this can result in dull, lifeless and brittle hair.

The best thing you can do is pamper yourself to a DIY intensive hair treatment once a week to keep your skin, and your hair happy!

You will find that the honey helps to nourish and hydrate your hair, making it look more shiny. While green tea will prevent hair loss and help to stimulate your scalp.

Ingredients:

1 cups brewed green tea (cooled to warm)
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tbsp honey

Method:

1. Boil kettle and brew 1 cup of green tea. Allow to cool to a warm-hot temperature, but not boiling.

2. Add coconut oil and honey and mix well in a container of your choice.

3. Apply mixture to your scalp and hair, gently massaging from roots to ends.

4. Leave for 30 minutes or over night and then wash hair as per normal.

Green Tea Face Mask

Face masks are the perfect way to give your skin the hydrating and detoxing boost it needs to look crystal clear, all year round. If you suffer from skin concerns, this recipe is going to be perfect for you!

Green tea helps to promote youthful, glowing skin by fighting free radical damage and fighting against acne breakouts. You should use a face mask once a week after cleansing to help promote a healthy, glowing complexion.

Turmeric powder use in the recipe is known for its anti-inflammatory properties that fight skin concerns like acne, acne scarring and eczema. It also acts as a potent antioxidant to lighten dark spots, blemishes and sunspots.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp brewed green tea (cooled)

2 tbsp greek yoghurt

1/2 tsp lemon juice

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Method:

1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.

2. Cleanse skin and apply the mixture to damp skin.

3. Wait for the mixture to set on your skin after a few minutes, then apply again. Repeat until finished.

4. Allow the mask to sit on your face for ten minutes and rinse well with cool water.

It’s best to follow with a gentle moisturiser, serum or rose hip oil. Only 2-3 drops of rose hip oil is necessary.

Don’t waste thousands of dollars on expensive beauty products that promise the world. You can make your very own natural skincare products at home, with natural ingredients and minimal expense. I love making my own natural skincare and encourage you to ditch your products that contain SLS, mineral oils, parabens and other nasties that could be making your skin worse!
